The 2021 International Maestro Music Competition is open to all nationalities and countries. All instruments, including piano, strings, brass, jazz, and woodwinds, are welcome to participate in the Competition.

The competition is open to students from age five to adults and is divided into five categories.


Young musician A: 5-7 years old

Young musician B: 8-10 years old

Junior: 11-14 years old

Intermediate: 15-18 years old  

Professional: 18+ years old

The category of the applicant is determined by his or her age on the application deadline. A copy of the birth certificate or other proof of age, e.g., driver's license, passport, or other government-issued identification, is required for all applicants in the young musician, junior, intermediate categories.


Applicants must submit one or two video recordings. Any work can be chosen from Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, or Contemporary eras. One-piece can contain a single work or a variety of shorter ones. A movement of a sonata is also acceptable as one piece. Judges will select one from the submitted works to be performed in the winner concert.


The time limit for each piece as follows:

Young musicians: under 5 minutes

Junior: under 6 minutes

Intermediate: under 6 minutes

Professional: under 7 minutes


Applicants may enroll in solo, duet, or four hands classification. In this classification, the age of the older applicant determines the age category. The music for this category does not have to be memorized. 


1. Provide links to the applicant(s)' performance recordings on YouTube, Google Drive, DropBox, or other permanent file-sharing services. Video materials should be a fair representation of the contestants’ ability. The video recorded by a smartphone meets the quality requirement. 

2. Pay a $105 application fee for one solo applicant or $180 for one chamber group. The application fee is not refundable under any circumstances. 



Contestants must perform from memory, except chamber. Repeats are not necessary.

The final result will be based solely on the video recordings submitted.

The decision from the competition committee is final and cannot be appealed.

Winner certificates will be granted to the performing winners only, after the winner concert. (Please refer to Special Consideration related to COVID-19 section for exceptions).

No changes in repertoires are allowed after the application form is submitted. 

All foreign competitors are responsible for their expenses for appearing in the winner concert.

Application fee, winner concert, and photo fees are not refundable. (Please refer to Special Consideration related to COVID-19 section for exceptions).


Package A: 

This package includes the invitation to perform in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, IMC 2021 trophy, IMC 2021 winner’s certificate, winner teacher’s recognition certificate, entry admission for each winner, two guest tickets, one set of digital photos taken by a professional photographer during winners' performance on the stage of Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and recital program. The pictures will be sent out in a few weeks after the concert. The fee for this package is $395(solo)/$595(chamber group).

Package B:

If a winner has safety concerns about traveling to Carnegie Hall or performing in the concert, he/she can choose this option. Package B includes IMC 2021 trophy, IMC 2021 winner’s certificate, winner teacher’s recognition certificate.  The package will be shipped to the winner's designated address. Shipping is free if the address is in the USA or Canada. The fee for package B is $195(solo)/$395(chamber group). 


An additional fee will be charged for performance time beyond the limit for each category. The rate is $100 for each extra minute.  

No acoustic system will be provided.

During the performance in the winner concert, pictures and recordings are prohibited. Once found, the qualification of the winner will be forfeited based on the Carnegie Hall policy. A professional photographer will take pictures for all performers.

Detailed winner concert guidelines will be emailed to winners after the result are published.


1. Winner concert might be canceled due to the restrictions enforced by the local government or an insufficient number of performers committed to participate in the concert. We will closely monitor the relevant information and notify all winners if the concert has to be canceled, in which case, all winners who choose package A will get package B instead, with a $200 refund.

2. The competition committee reserves the right to change the rules, dates, schedules, and all the other information related to the competition. All rights are reserved by the competition committee.
